Audio Software: You can probably quite happily get started for free with. I actually can usually get away with a buffer size around 256 and still record vocals with no latency but once in awhile I have to freeze all of the tracks in the session or use low latency mode with no FX, which is fine but meh. The mic, interface, and all that is gonna be good enough with the budget you.
Usually, when I produce a song I do the entire composition/production first and vocals last when I have a nice full track with many plugins usually. So, I have recorded two albums in Logic while using software monitoring and for the most part it has been fine but I have just been curious about a couple things.
